In the final serious yet not-so-serious tuneup race of the regular season, Plains Horsemen harriers Cord Greer and John Owen Jermyn finished first and second in the Mission Shadow Duels in Pablo Saturday.
Coach Jesse Jermyn will now guide his Plains cross country runners into the Western B-C divisional meet at River’s Bend golf course outside of Thompson Falls Thursday in preparation for the Montana All-Class Cross Country Meet at Amend Park in Billings Oct. 23.
Formerly run with hay bales strategically placed in areas for jumping or navigating around, the Mission Shadow Duels no longer can use the bales but there is still a lot of mud and water challenges on the course.
Using staggered, reverse-order starting as always in this race, Greer timed out in 16:12.7 to win first place in the boys meet and John Owen Jermyn won second place in 16:40.5.
Also running in the boys varsity race for Plains were Jack Cockrell (19:51.9), Tyler Barton (20:31.), Riley Geenen (23:20.6) and Bryan Lakko (23:22.5).
Emmy Russell took 17th in 22:52.5 and Kylie Silva 34th for the Plains girls varsity in 24:40.3.
Jace Russell paced the Plains boys in the middle school race, winning tenth place in 12:33.0, and Louis Jermyn (13:46.7), Kael Meaden (14:32.2) and Mason Marton (14:35.6) also ran in Pablo.
Gracelyn Larsen (14:57.6), Jordyn Albertson (16:03.4) Ashlynn Weedeman (16:04.1), Pearl Ferlen (16:45.3), Lianna Loveall (19:17.0) and Dillyn Doble (19:21.9) all ran for Plains in middle school girls race.
