POST FALLS — Sandpoint’s star senior Bode Eacret defined golf in his effort at the 5A State Tournament at The Links in Post Falls on Monday and Tuesday, at least according to his head coach.

Eacret started the tournament off shooting a 73 on Monday, which placed him seventh in the individual leaderboard. Sandpoint boys’ lone representative, Eacret, followed that up with a 78 on Tuesday, which set up his final score at 151, tied for the 10th best of any golfer at the state tournament.

“Bode set the bar for the boys high. A great standard was set for commitment, focus and how to be a great teammate,” Sandpoint golf head coach Mike Deprez said. “His contributions as a teammate and to the Bulldog men's golf program will be felt for years to come.”

On the girls side, Sandpoint’s individual representatives were Ella Mahlum and Hannah Majors. The Bulldogs girls’ top golfer, Majors, continued what she’s done all year, playing consistent golf and shooting an 88 on Monday and a 91 on Tuesday. Her final score of 179 placed her at only eight strokes off the individual top 10.

Mahlum bounced back on Tuesday after shooting a 97 on Monday to shoot a 91 on Tuesday, bringing her final score to 188.

“I will guarantee a girls trip to state next year with Hannah, Ella and two returning players,” Deprez said.

Overall, Deprez said he was proud of how the Bulldogs fared at the 5A State Tournament. Deprez said the trio of Sandpoint players responded to the inevitable challenges of golf with a positive attitude and gained confidence throughout the day.

“What I liked was they all had runs of exceptional golf to build on and gain confidence in how good they are and can be,” Deprez said. “As well as how they responded to the inevitable unique challenges golf always presents. They all responded with focus, resolve and a positive attitude.”
