COEUR d'ALENE — The Coeur d'Alene Vikings weren't sure if their season would have ended with a loss on Tuesday night.

So the Vikings didn't take any chances.

Third-seeded Coeur d'Alene traveled to second-seeded Lake City and beat the Timberwolves 25-17, 25-23, 19-25, 25-20 in the first round of the 6A District 1 volleyball tournament.

"It would have been a little tougher," Coeur d'Alene coach Carly Curtis said. "I think we would have been out of contention (for a play-in berth). A win at least puts us in the conversation."

Coeur d'Alene (23-7), ranked 10th in 6A by MaxPreps, advances to play top-seeded Post Falls on Thursday at 7 p.m. in the first match of a best-of-3 series for the district title.

Lake City (19-10), ranked ninth in 6A by MaxPreps, will find out if its seed is good enough to land a state play-in match on Saturday.

Senior Jovie Le had 11 kills and six blocks, and senior Hannah Shafer had 20 assists and 19 digs.

Embree McKeown had 29 digs, Emily Hackett 16 digs, 12 assists and two aces, Eva Callari nine kills, Maren Larson seven kills and four blocks.

"We've seen glimpses of it all season," Curtis said. "A big thing tonight was to come out with a lot of energy. We just came out firing on offense, and our defense was super scrappy."

For Lake City, Camryn Woodman had 17 kills and nine digs, Ella Jeanselme 12 kills, eight digs and three aces, Kate Moglia 47 assists and 23 digs, Sonia-Rei Fong 30 digs.

"Props to Coeur d’Alene, they had an effective plan and made it really challenging for us to score," Lake City coach Michelle Kleinberg said. "We are in a weird spot waiting to see how our ranking holds up, but we’ll keep our fingers crossed and use our time wisely so we’re ready for any scenario. This one is tough but congratulations to CHS, they were the better team tonight."

Sandpoint d.

Lakeland

SANDPOINT — With a chance to wrap up the 5A Inland Empire League title, the visiting Hawks stumbled in a 25-22, 6-25, 25-10, 15-25, 15-13 loss to the Bulldogs at Les Rogers Court.

Jolie Warren had 15 kills, Maddi Justesen 10 for Lakeland (13-13, 4-1 5A IEL). Anabel Bowie had four aces and two blocks, Ella Cook two blocks, Emma Beaty 19 digs, Jaeli Hoffman 21 assists.

"Not our best night on the court," Lakeland coach Kelsie Badger said. "We struggled to find our rhythm, and Sandpoint took advantage of that. We know what we’re capable of, and we’ll learn from tonight, get back to work, and continue to grow as a team."

Sandpoint is 8-9, 3-2, tied for second with Lewiston (12-11, 3-2)
