That Crosstown feeling is in the air again.
Flathead and Glacier are set to meet Thursday for the 20th Crosstown matchup between the schools at Legends Stadium.
Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. The Braves are the home team.
The teams come into the game on separate trajectories as Glacier is winners of six straight and now sits alone atop the Western AA standings at 5-0.
Flathead has dropped four straight after a 3-0 start and sits 1-4 in conference.
Braves coach Mac Roche says his team is excited for another opportunity to put on the Orange and Black against Glacier.
“Our guys are excited, it’s Crosstown, how can you not be,” Roche said. “You are playing against the kids that you grew up against and we have had a really good week of preparation.”
The sentiment is the same on the north side of Kalispell with the Wolfpack.
“No matter what you say there is that human side of it as well,” Grady Bennett said of trying to treat Thursday as just another game. “Yes, it is just another game, but yes it is Crosstown and there are bragging rights that come with it.”
The bragging rights have gone the way of the Wolfpack most years since the rivalry began, with Glacier boasting a 15-4 record against Flathead. The Braves last won in 2018, a 28-27 victory.
To get it done tonight, Flathead needs to rid itself of the turnover bug that plagued the Braves against Butte. Flathead turned the ball over four times in the 35-7 loss.
“I told the scout team guys this week ‘if you guys punch the football out you get a helmet sticker,’ “ Roche said. “Our JV guys all week long are trying to snipe the football from the varsity guys. They are a little bit more consciously holding onto the ball in all the drill work.”
As for slowing down the Wolfpack, Roche notes that his guys need to be ready to do their part.
“It’s, ‘Hey, can I do my executed job of my 1/11 in our scheme every single play?’ That is all we need to focus on,” Roche said.
Glacier knows that this game will be won in the trenches as the Braves bring a talented front on both sides of the ball.
“They are really big up front, they are a strong team,” Bennett said, adding that the Wolfpack front has been playing their best football in recent weeks, including helping Trey Ramey run for 205 yards last week against Helena.
Ramey is averaging 104.4 yards per game on the ground, while Flathead back Leum Saisbury is sitting at 137.8 yards. Saisbury missed Flathead’s last two games with an undisclosed injury.
Meanwhile, both quarterbacks have produced well through the air this season.
Braves senior Bear Barker has thrown for 17 touchdowns and nearly 1,600 yards this season.
Wolfpack junior Cash Keim has 10 touchdowns and 1,127 yards.
