Polson Seniors: Roundtrip rides available weekdays
Pete Mangels | Lake County Leader | UPDATED 4 days, 8 hours AGO
Our transportation department offers round-trip rides for $8 to places within a five-mile radius of the Polson Senior Center on weekdays only. We have one driver and reservations the day before (or earlier) are highly recommended.
The longer you wait to call the less likely a ride will be available for you. No driver is available from 11 a.m. to noon.
AARP Safe Driver Class will be offered Tuesday, Oct. 20, from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. (with a half-hour lunch break). Easy-to-follow learning manuals will be supplemented by a certified driving instructor and a video course guide.
Preregister by visiting or calling the Senior Center to reserve a seat. The fee is $25 and AARP members receive a $5 discount. Insurance discounts may be available for participants for up to three years.
Have you voted yet? Have you asked a younger person about their privilege to vote? Are there too many old people in legislative bodies?
Old people vote. Votes count. Make your voice heard. Your vote is your power in a democratic republic.
Several constitutional issues are on the ballot. Do your research. Voter information is available at the Courthouse Annex, the library and the senior center.
Lunch is served from 11:45 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Monday-Friday ($5 donation; $10 without a completed MASTS form). Milk is available with all meals.
Delivered meals are only available to those who qualify according to our guidelines and recipients must pre-register 24 hours in advance for delivery.
The menu (subject to substitutions) includes meat loaf with baker spuds, Oct. 15; blueberry strata with sausage links, Oct. 16; beef-barley soup, Oct. 19; corned beef casserote. Oct. 20; taco salad, Oct. 21; pigs in a blanket, Oct. 22; and birthday ham dinner with all the fixings, Oct. 23.
Activities at the center include bingo at 6 p.m. Fridays and card bingo, 6 p.m. on the first and third Wednesdays; pinochle, 12:30 p.m. Monday, no pass, and Thursdays, pass four (new and old players welcome); pool table available 8 a.m.-3 p.m. daily; mahjong and bridge, noon Wednesdays (looking for substitutes and regular players); and exercise class (low impact and video-assisted), 10:30-11:30 a.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
Spinning Wheelers meet 11 a.m.-1 p.m. on the second and fourth Tuesdays (call 208-520-1013); and the veterans service officer visits the center from 10 a.m.-noon on the first Friday and third Tuesday of each month (walk-ins welcome).
Our Polson Senior Citizens community center provides space for individuals and groups to meet for physical and mental health, social and educational purposes, and may be reserved for special events on weekends and evenings. We are open 8 a.m.-3 p.m. weekdays, or later by appointment.
