Barbara Smith, 82

Barbara J. Smith, 82, passed away peacefully at home in Denver on Oct. 10, 2026.

Barbara was born on Aug. 25, 1944, in Harlem, Montana. As a child, her family relocated to Kalispell, where she lived much of her adult years.

On Dec. 23, 1964, she married the love of her life, Herbert Larry Smith. Together they built a life centered on family, hard work and lasting friendships.

Barb and Larry owned and operated Smith's Carpet Center for 40 years. Barb truly loved her work and cherished the relationships she built with customers over the years. She enjoyed working so much that she continued until the age of 80.

She is preceded in death by her brother, Earl Main; sisters, Fran (Howard) Ruby, Linda (Micky) Byers, and Helen Main; her children, Lance (Danell) Smith, Kevin (Belinda) Smith, and Tiffany (Kent) Hakes; her grandchildren, Coley (Itzel) Hakes, Chase (Alexis) Hakes, Levi Smith, Easton (Lauren) Smith, and Sidonya (Nicholas) Meyers; and one great-grandchild, Lincoln Smith. 

Barbara was blessed with many wonderful friendships and reflected fondly on the experiences and memories that shaped her life. Surrounded by the love of her family and the laughter of her friends, she lived a full and meaningful life.

In accordance with Barbara's wishes, no memorial service will be held.
