In Good Company Respite, a new local nonprofit, will host a free tea party Saturday, Oct. 24, from 1:30 to 3 p.m. at Lake City Center.

The organization offers a weekly program for seniors living with mild to moderate dementia and other challenges. Participants enjoy time with others, take part in activities, and build social ties in a welcoming setting. At the same time, their family caregivers get something many need but may find hard to arrange: a regular break, a press release said.

“Everyone deserves to feel welcome, valued, and connected to others," said Codi Spodnik, program director. "This program is uniquely crafted to promote friendships among our caregivers, their loved ones and our community of volunteers. We create a space that cultivates joy, laughter, and connections, while their caregivers get a chance to rest and take care of themselves."

According to the press release, caring for a loved one can be a full-time job. Many older adults suffer from social isolation when they begin to experience challenges with their health, or the health of a loved one. A weekly break gives them time to rest, run errands, see friends, or take care of their own needs.

Guests must RSVP by Wednesday, Oct. 21, by texting 208-967-4771. There will be prizes and a paddle raise in support of operations. Volunteer opportunities will part of the presentation.

"We hope this tea party will help more people learn how they can be part of this work," Spodnik said.
