Bradley Donald Yocum, 76
Coeur d'Alene Press | UPDATED 1 hour, 33 minutes AGO
Brad was born in Seattle, Wash., on Feb. 28, 1950, to Don and Jeanette Yocum. Jeanette and Don moved the family to Teko, Wash., Colville, Wash., and finally landed in Coeur d’Alene. Here, Brad went to junior high and Coeur d’Alene High School. He graduated in ’69.
Brad was very well liked and made many good friends. Brad played sports in school. He played football, baseball and really excelled in basketball. He played for the Coeur d’Alene Vikings in ’68-69. Brad was a high scorer, averaging 18 points a game, and led the team in free-throw percentage. A lot of locals thought he was the best pure shooter that came out of Coeur d’Alene. Among his talents, Brad played the trumpet in the school band and was a very good singer.
In 1971, he married the love of his life, Janice. They had two kids, Trevor and Lisa Yocum. Brad went into the service in 1974. He was stationed at Fort Lewis, Wash. Brad was a driver for high-ranking officers and played Taps with his bugle at military funerals for extra money for his family.
Brad and his family got out of the service in 1978. He got back in the grocery business, managed, and later worked for, Super 1 Foods for 17 years. He later worked as a custodian at North Idaho College. Brad umpired ASA softball and hardball for most of his adult life, winning honors for his achievements with the Bobby Martin Award twice and Best Umpire in the state of Idaho. Brad was fair and took his umpiring seriously. Brad also officiated men’s basketball leagues for many years.
Brad’s love was Priest Lake at the family cabin. He loved water skiing, camping, backpacking and was known for Tarzan yells that would echo for miles. He was a man’s man; he would give you the shirt off his back to help you out.
We miss and love Brad. Brad is survived by his good friend, Janice, mother of his children; his daughter, Lisa of Newman Lake; grandkids: Emily Jasinski, Robyn, Lee McNutt, Ashton Yocum, all of Spokane Valley, Sadie Motyka of Galena, Ill.; brothers: Bruce (Rosemary) Yocum of Valley Ford, Wash., Brent Yocum of Sagle, Idaho; nephews: Charlie (Alicia) Yocum of Post Falls, Idaho, Forrest (Sarah) Yocum; great niece, Isabella Yocum of Weiser, Idaho; niece, Ashley Yocum, Troy Warner; great niece, Laythia Wartner; great nephew, Logan Warner, all of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho.
