Mineral County residents are invited to attend the upcoming Senior Health and Resource Fair on Friday, Oct. 23, from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Mineral County 4-H Building at 301 2nd Avenue East in Superior.
Sponsored by MSU Extension Mineral County, the free community event is designed to connect older adults, caregivers, family, and community members with valuable health, wellness, transportation, and support resources available throughout the region.
The fair will bring together a variety of organizations dedicated to helping seniors maintain their health, independence, and quality of life. Attendees will have the opportunity to visit with representatives from local and regional agencies, learn about available programs and services, ask questions, and gather information tailored to their individual needs.
Some of the participating organizations include the MSU Mobile Memory Café Program, which provides support and education related to dementia and Alzheimer's disease; Western Montana End-of-Life Collective, which provides support to navigate death and dying; Area 6 Agency on Aging, which provides assistance navigating Medicare; Mineral County Pioneer Council, provides weekly transportation services to Missoula and medical appointments in-county; Disabled American Veterans (DAV), provides free transportation for veterans to approved medical appointments; Montana Accessible Communications, provides access to assistive telecommunications equipment; Montana Legal Services Association, provides one-on-one support for estate planning documents; and other community partners serving Mineral County residents.
"One of the most valuable things we can do for our community is make sure people know where to turn for help before they need it," said Emily Park, MSU Extension Mineral County. "This fair brings trusted organizations together in one place, making it easier for seniors, families, and friends to learn about the resources available to support healthy, independent living."
Many seniors and their families are unaware of available services until they are faced with a significant life change or health challenge. Organizers hope the fair will help residents build connections with service providers, learn about local and regional resources, and gain information that can support long-term well-being and independence.
As Mineral County's senior population continues to grow, access to reliable information and support services becomes increasingly important. According to the U.S. Census Bureau and the 2020–2024 American Community Survey, the median age of Mineral County residents is approximately 50 years, nearly 10 years older than Montana’s median age of 40.4. The county also has a substantial older population, with roughly 28% of residents age 65 and older. Community members of all ages are welcome to attend.
Whether seeking information for themselves, helping a loved one navigate available services, or simply wanting to learn more about community resources, attendees are encouraged to stop by during the event.
For those in St. Regis and the west end, call (406) 370-4335 if transportation if needed by 4 p.m. on Thursday, October 22. Limited seating is free and available from the Mineral County Pioneer Council. For more information, contact Emily Park at MSU Extension Mineral County 406-822-3545.
