Coeur d'Alene vs. Rigby.

Lake City vs. Owyhee.

Lakeland vs. Hillcrest.

Some classics in recent years for area boys programs in the state tournament.

Ladies, you're up next.

Coeur d'Alene (23-8), seeded 10th by MaxPreps, which are used to seed the state tournaments, will travel to top-seeded Rigby (35-5) in a state 6A play-in match on Saturday at noon PDT, as teams were announced for play-in matches across the state on Wednesday.

Coeur d'Alene is bidding for its fourth straight trip to state.

Lake City (19-10), seeded ninth, will travel to eighth-seeded Owyhee (19-11) of Nampa in the other state play-in match, also at noon. The Timberwolves are bidding for their first state appearance since 2022.

Winners from Saturday's matches advance to state at either Coeur d'Alene, Lake City or Post Falls high starting next Thursday. Locations for the 6A, 5A and 4A tournaments will be determined following the play-in rounds.

Tournaments will be re-seeded following the play-in round.

Lakeland (15-14), seeded seventh, will travel to fifth-seeded Hillcrest High (21-16) of Ammon, also at noon on Saturday. The Hawks lost to Lewiston in five sets in the 5A Region 1 championship on Tuesday in Rathdrum.

Lakeland was third at state last year. Hillcrest won last year's tournament at Timberline High in Boise.

Third-seeded Bonneville (21-13) of Idaho Falls hosts 15th seeded Vallivue (14-11) of Caldwell in the other play-in match.

Timberlake (8-9), which claimed the 4A District 1 championship, is seeded 12th and travels to sixth-seeded Snake River (20-14) of Blackfoot on Saturday at 11 a.m. Had Timberlake finished in the top eight in the MaxPreps rankings, the Tigers would have received an automatic berth. Bonners Ferry (7-13), which claimed the Intermountain League title, was seeded 13th and did not qualify.

In 3A, Priest River (15-4), which is seeded sixth, will host ninth-seeded Melba (14-16) on Saturday at 1 p.m. The Spartans are seeking back-to-back trips to state. Melba was third at state last year at the Mountain America Center in Idaho Falls.

Fifth-seeded Nampa Christian (15-9) hosts 10th seeded Marsing (14-11) and seventh-seeded West Side (16-14) hosts eighth-seeded Ririe (12-7) in other play-in matches.

In 1A, Coeur du Christ (13-5) bids for its second straight trip to state, facing third-seeded Council (19-9) on Saturday at noon. The Saints went 0-2 at state last year at Coeur d'Alene High.
