Karen Buck Evans, age 83, passed away peacefully Oct. 14, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of immense resilience, entrepreneurial spirit, and unconditional generosity. Born on March 1, 1943, and raised in the Spokane, Wash., area, Karen spent most of her life embracing the beauty of the Inland Northwest, spending most of her life in her beloved Spirit Lake.

Karen’s life was defined by profound love and extraordinary strength. She was married to Bill Evans for over 60 years. Together, they built a life and a family, welcoming their daughter, Leslie, and son Thadd. Though Karen faced unimaginable grief by surviving Bill, Leslie, and Thadd — losing Leslie and Thadd both at tragically young ages — her heart never hardened. Instead, her personal losses fueled an even deeper capacity to care for others. She remained incredibly thoughtful, fiercely independent, and generous to everyone who crossed her path.

Karen is survived by her brother, Jerry; her sister, Beverly; her three nieces, Lynnel, Michelle and Jacqueline; and a lifetime of countless devoted friends who became family. A vibrant and dynamic force, Karen was a natural entrepreneur. Over her lifetime, she successfully owned and operated a wide variety of businesses. Her ventures spanned many industries, including a catering company, a local bar, a flower shop and a salon, along with many other business adventures. Her work ethic was unmatched, and her businesses were always extensions of her desire to bring people together.

Karen cherished her relationships and possessed a rare loyalty. She maintained deep, lifelong bonds with friends she had met as far back as grade school and high school. She treasured traveling the world with her sisters-in-law, loved going on cruises, and always looked forward to casino trips. Yet, she also found immense joy in her daily routines, rarely missing her 5 a.m. coffee bunch gatherings at the old Millcreek Inn.

Karen had a genuinely kind heart and a thoughtful mind. She was a steadfast friend, a dedicated sister and aunt, and a bright light in her community. Her warmth, generosity and enduring spirit will be deeply missed but never forgotten by the countless lives she touched. In lieu of flowers, and in honor of Karen’s lifelong love for animals — especially her beloved little dog, Missy, who meant the absolute world to her — the family requests that memorial donations be made to the Spokane Humane Society.
