Wanda Lee Olenslager, born Wanda Lee Phelps, passed away peacefully in her sleep Oct. 22, 2026, in Perry, Utah. She was born Jan. 11, 1940, in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, and was raised in Rathdrum, Idaho.

Wanda graduated from Rathdrum High School and later graduated from Link's Business College. Her life was centered on faith, family and devoted service to others. Her faith and belief in Jesus Christ were of utmost importance to her, and that conviction guided the way she lived and loved.

She met her husband, Merlin, at her sister Benita’s wedding to Frank Olenslager, Merlin’s older brother. Their story grew into a lasting marriage, and they were married and sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on Sept. 20, 1961. They settled in Hayden, Idaho, and raised their family there. Together they built a family that Wanda treasured deeply. She considered the raising of her children — her greatest accomplishment, and her grandchildren and great-grandchildren — her greatest joy.

Wanda enjoyed spending time with family and found happiness in life’s simple and meaningful moments. She enjoyed fishing and hunting, and she was also known for making delicious food that brought people together. She gave generously of her time in her children’s schools, helping with activities and serving on the PTA. She also served in many church callings for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, including ward and stake Relief Society, Scouting Den Mother and Young Women. In each of these roles, she offered steady care, willing hands and a faithful heart.

She is survived by her beloved husband, Merlin Olenslager; their children: Randy Olenslager, Brian Olenslager, Kent Olenslager, Roger Olenslager and Merlene Bodily; and her 23 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters, Alvina Wolheter and Cherry Heitstuman; and by her brother, Perry Phelps. The love she gave to her family will remain a lasting gift in their lives.

She was preceded in death by her father and mother, Joseph and Della Phelps; her brother, Charles Phelps; her sisters, Benita Olenslager and Lulu Belle Pielop; and her granddaughter, Natalie Olenslager. Their memories remained part of her life and were surely among those waiting to welcome her home.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 31, 2026, with a viewing preceding the service at 1 p.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 477 East Honeysuckle Ave., Hayden, ID 83835. A graveside will follow at Coeur d’Alene Memorial Gardens, 7315 N. Government Way, Coeur d’Alene, ID 83815.

Wanda will be remembered for her deep faith, her love for her family, her service, and the warmth she brought to the lives of those around her. Her life was a blessing, and her memory will be cherished always.
