Deadline set for comment on transmission line near Lake Coeur d'Alene
Coeur d'Alene Press | UPDATED 5 hours, 32 minutes AGO
The Idaho Public Utilities Commission has set a new deadline for submitting written comments on an application from Avista Utilities to build a transmission line and related facilities near Lake Coeur d'Alene.
The utility is proposing to build the 115-kilovolt Carlin Bay transmission line to serve the east side of Lake Coeur d’Alene, a press release said. The area is served by two distribution feeders, one from the Blue Creek Substation and one from the O’Gara Substation.
"Avista said both feeders have experienced sustained outages and have reached their capacity as the population grows and electricity demand increases," the release said.
The utility also said the additional transmission capacity would provide a dependable source of energy for existing and future customers, create greater flexibility for delivering energy and reserve capacity, as well as provide an alternative source for shifting electrical loads during outages or equipment failures, according to the release.
The initial deadline to submit comments was Oct. 27. The Commission determined that additional time is needed to process the utility’s application and is extending the deadline through Nov. 17.
