Local high school students can experience the nation’s capital firsthand on an all-expenses-paid trip to Washington, D.C., as part of the annual Electric Cooperative Youth Tour.

Using unclaimed capital credits, Flathead Electric Cooperative sponsors 2-3 local students for an all-expenses-paid trip to Washington, D.C. The long-standing program, offered in partnership with the Montana Electric Cooperatives’ Association and the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association, brings together more than 1,500 students from electric cooperative communities across the country.

During the weeklong trip in June, participants visit national monuments and historic sites, learn how the federal government works, meet with Montana’s congressional delegation, and gain a better understanding of the cooperative business model.

The opportunity is open to current high school sophomores and juniors whose households are served by Flathead Electric Cooperative. Participants are selected through an application and interview process.

Applications are open through Oct. 31.
