Hopefully there will be more treats than tricks.
This week a bevy of Halloween-themed events will be held in south Lincoln County leading up to All Hallow’s Eve Saturday.
The Troy branch of the Lincoln County Library will host “Caught Read-Handed: A True Crime Book Club” at 6 p.m. Wednesday.
The group meets monthly to read about and then discuss the chilling real-life cases behind the headlines. Anyone obsessed with true crime and investigative journalism might want to check it out.
Members of the Libby Loggers cross country team, dressed in costumes, will run from SkiDale to the high school at 4 p.m. Thursday. The Logger girls team, led by junior Capri Farmer’s fourth-place finish, was fifth at the Montana High School Association Championships last weekend in Billings. Senior Cody Watson is also an all-state runner after placing seventh while leading his team to an eighth-place finish.
In Troy, the Junior High Student Council is hosting Halloween Movie Night at the Lincoln Theater. The “Corpse Bride,” rated PG, will begin at 6 p.m. Tickets are $5 per person. Candy, popcorn and soda will be available for purchase.
The next night in Troy, the annual Halloween Walk on the track fundraiser will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 30. The event begins at the Troy Activity Center and there will be hot dogs, hot chocolate and water.
Kids walk for free, adults are $10 and donations are welcome.
The Memorial Center in Libby will host “The Addams Family Musical,” presented by Voices Unfolding and performed by the Kootenai Karacters. It will run Thursday through Sunday. Show times are 7 p.m. Thursday and Friday; 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Saturday and noon and 5 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 1.
On Halloween evening, members of the Igniters Car Club will be outside the center handing out candy.
“I'm very much impressed with the work that Voices Unfolding is doing under the direction of Atticus Lande and Vivian Cole,” Bell said. “The Addams Family musical will be their third production and is sure to be well worth seeing. Anyone who thinks that young people lack motivation should come see what a group of them can achieve.”
Advance sale tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for students for the PG-13 rated show. They can be purchased at the Kaiju Bar and Grill.
Tickets at the door are $20 for adults and $15 for students.
The Libby House of Horror, at 318 California Ave., will run from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. each night Thursday through Saturday. Entry is either $2 or two cans of food with the donations going directly to the Libby Food Pantry.
Then, on the big day, Halloween, Saturday, Oct. 31, Libby and Troy will do it right with a variety of events.
The Libby Care Center will hold a Halloween community walk-through from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday in the main dining room where residents and activity staff will hand out candy and small toys. It is open to all.
The Rotary Trick or Treat Store to Store event will run from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Mineral Avenue in Libby. The Harper Erdmann VFW Post 1548 will host a hayride along Mineral Avenue at the same time.
