Alpine Theatre Project Artistic Director Tracy McDowell will be on a Broadway stage Monday night, singing in the one-night-only "Rent 30th Anniversary Concert." The next night, she'll be in Whitefish for opening night of "The Rocky Horror Picture Show: The Live Experience."
The Alpine Theater Project production runs five nights, Oct. 27-31, at Alpine Theatre Project Studios at 6475 Highway 93 South, Suite 14, in the Whitefish Mountain Center. The 1975 cult film plays on screen while a live cast and band perform its music on stage and the audience is expected to join in. Costumes, callbacks and the "Time Warp" are all part of the night.
Local fans can watch McDowell on Broadway before seeing her in Whitefish. The "Rent 30th Anniversary Concert" streams live Monday, Oct. 26 at 6 p.m. Mountain time, with livestream tickets at $30 through lolst.org, benefiting Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS.
McDowell is an alum of the "10th Anniversary Tour of Rent" and the closing company of "MOTOWN: The Musical." She joins a cast led by Bootsie Lefaris as Dr. Frank-N-Furter. Bootsie won Entertainer of the Year at the 2023 NYC Glam Awards, trained in musical theatre, has headlined in the Fire Island Pines, and has taken her Celine Dion as far as Dublin. She returns to the role after playing it for ATP last year.
Cameron Mitchell Bell, also returning from last year's production, comes from New York with credits including the Broadway national tour of Annie, the international tour of Beauty and the Beast, his Off-Broadway debut in Drag: The Musical, and the television series Girls5eva with Sara Bareilles. Becky Stout, a former Radio City Rockette, joins from Los Angeles. She appeared in the Broadway cast of "Follies" and Off-Broadway in "Anything Goes," and she served as dance demonstrator for the Broadway auditions of "Matilda."
Laura Abernethy, Ross Bridgeman and Mikey Winn join the cast, with ATP board president Marcus Wheeler as Rocky. The cast also includes Corey Burke, Todd Cowart, Jolene Green, Jeremy Reinbolt, Jhalen Salazar, and Matt Seymour, all backed by a live band.
Friday's performance is already sold out. Saturday's performance falls on Halloween night, and costumes are especially encouraged.
On Thursday, the show turns into a party. DJ JCinthebasement spins disco from 9-11 p.m. at the Rocky Horror After Party, with dancing, photos with the cast, and the bar open. The party is free for Thursday ticket holders.
Tickets for the Oct. 28 and 31 shows cost $45 and the Oct 29 and 30 are $55.
The bar opens one hour before each performance, and doors open 30 minutes before performance time. Seating is general admission. A $5 prop bag, with everything needed to join in during the show, can be added when buying tickets.
The production contains mature content, adult themes, and strong language.
Tickets are available at atpwhitefish.org/shows.
