Columbia Falls has a new thrift store on the corner of Nucleus Avenue and Highway 2.
How Bizarre Thrift takes up most of the bottom floor of the Gateway Building, a venture by partners Mikayla Gildart and Micah Sperry.
“We like to re-purpose and re-utilize,” the couple said of its store of eclectic finds, which include everything from clothing fare for young and old to household goods and items. They even have an older model TV with a working VCR.
They also have a collection of porcelain dolls.
The couple scours estate sales, storage units and the like looking for items. They also take donations. All told, the store is about 1,200 square feet and includes a room full of house plants. They also sell artwork and custom-made clothing from local artists and craftsmen and women. Everything is attractively priced, with many items $5 or less.
The store name comes from finding an item in a thrift store and thinking, “How Bizarre,” Gildart said.
The store opened Oct. 16 will have its grand opening on Halloween. People probably recognize Gildart and Sperry. Gildart previously cleaned houses and Sperry is the North Fork deliveryman for UPS, a job he’s been doing for years.
The couple grew up in the valley.
The store is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday and open until 8 p.m. on Halloween.
