PREP SWIMMING: Sandpoint claims third straight District 1-2 Championship

MOSCOW — For the third straight year, both the Sandpoint Bulldogs boys and girls sit atop District 1-2 after winning the district championship on Saturday at the University of Idaho Swim Center in Moscow.
Sandpoint's boys' team dominated their group, winning by 125 points over the next closest team, Moscow. The girls' margin of victory was far more narrow, as they claimed the championship by just 10 points over Lewiston High, 168-158.
"It was a great weekend. Our boys' performance was a pleasant surprise, and our girls beat Lewiston by a close margin," Sandpoint head coach Greg Jackson said. "That tells us we'll need our best at state to defend our title. I feel good about the girls' chances, and the rest we gain before State will help."
Due to other district championships not being completed, Sandpoint's individual results are not being shared publicly by Jackson at the time of publishing.
Jackson said the swimmer of the meet was Bodi Demmons, who won both of his individual events.
"He's a great example of someone who earns everything he gets," Jackson said. "I couldn't be happier for him."
According to Jackson, the Bulldogs had 10 swimmers automatically qualify for the State Championship with 8-10 potentially qualifying as well. At the meet, Jackson said the Bulldogs set 37 new personal records en route to four relay gold medals, two relay silver medals, nine individual golds and five individual silvers.
"Our district includes three of the top five girls teams in the state, so swimmers finishing 8th, 9th or 10th here can still earn a spot at state," Jackson said.
Next up for the Bulldogs is the State Championship, which will be hosted from Nov. 6-7 at the West YMCA in Meridian.
"Idaho Falls will be a challenge for our boys, but they've been focused all season and are ready," Jackson said. "It should be a fun, competitive State Championship for both teams, and I'm excited to see what they do."
