SANDPOINT — Soon, the streets of Sandpoint will fill with little monsters, superheroes and rockstars alike, letting their imagination run wild as they seek delicious treats that are bound to end up in their parents’ secret stash.

The Sandpoint Shopping District is holding true to some of the sugary values that surround Halloween, offering a place for kids to run throughout downtown Sandpoint to collect candy from approximately 35 downtown businesses.

On Halloween, participants are invited to attend the district's Candy Walk from 3 to 5:30 p.m. at participating local businesses.

"Visit participating Sandpoint shops, restaurants, and local businesses along the Candy Walk for an afternoon of treats and community fun," officials said on the district's website.

In operation for approximately eight years, the event allows traditional trick-or-treating for children, with an added benefit for adults to support local businesses along the way.

According to the district's website, participating businesses include, Art Works Gallery, Aspen & Stone at Home, Azalea-Hand Picked Style, Burlwood Dreams, Elliot Cole Home, Bea Speakman Agency/Farmers Bureau Insurance, Carousel Emporium, Eve's Leaves, The District Bistro, The Festival at Sandpoint, Gethsemane Oil and Vinegar, Larson's Good Clothes, Marigold Bistro, 219 Lounge, Meadowbrook Home Furnishings, Northwest Handmade, Out West Trading Co., Sandpoint Toys, Trudy's Hallmark, 7B-IV, Uniquely Sandpoint, Creations, Burger Dock, Finan McDonald Clothing, Connie's Cafe, Barrel 33, Tomlinson Sotheby's International Realty, Lexar Homes, Wildflower Aveda, Spa & Salon, Paneah's Bistro, Pure West Christie's International Real Estate, Pend d'Oreille Winery, Sugar Tooth, Sunshine on Cedar and 113 Main.

"Downtown businesses originally started the event to provide children with a safe and fun environment to dress up and enjoy some treats," Leilani Williams, Sandpoint's Downtown Shopping District manager, said.
