Benjamin Peter Kemery, 97
Bonner County Daily Bee | UPDATED 1 hour, 7 minutes AGO
Benjamin Peter Kemery, age 97, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Oct. 8, 2026.
Peter was born 1929 in Bristol, England, to Dr. Tahir Khemeri and Lillian Stock Khemiri. While employed by Hamburg University as a professor, Dr. Khemiri and his family were unable to leave Germany at the onset of World War II. Peter spent the first 16 years of his life (1930-1946) in Germany living through the entire 12-year rule of the Nazi regime. This experience influenced his entire life as he trained up his children and those around him to see how God was leading and planning for his people Israel. Many Jewish people were guests in his home and at his table.
In 1950 while working as a teacher in France, Peter met his bride Evelyn Thomas who was from Idaho and, after a two-year courtship, married her in 1952 at Westminster Church in London, England. This marriage would last 64 years and be an example to all of "true love," the way God intended it to be. Our friends and family will always remember fondly this quiet couple, arm in arm, together in love serving God.
As a 16-year-old in Germany in Nazi Germany, Peter had prayed to God to use him wherever he would go as a missionary to those God wanted to reach with the Salvation message. God answered that prayer miraculously time after time. Peter called his work for the Lord a "tent-making ministry" after the example set by the Apostle Paul as he worked among many different peoples to make known God's love for them.
During Peter's lifelong employment with Shell Oil Company, his ministry spanned the globe from the U.K. to India to the Philippines, and to the U.S., all the time serving with the prayer "here am I Lord, send me." Peter would use his home as the base of his outreach as he strived to make the Gospel known to all that God would send his way. Peter was heavily involved in the foreign student host family programs and the InterVarsity Christian Fellowship all of his adult life. One of his greatest endeavors was teaching the Men's Bible Study Fellowship group in Houston until he retired at 70 years of age.
Peter is preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn; and his oldest daughter, Rebecca; and his grandsons, Benjamin and Tommy Kemery. He has three living children, Sarah, Jonathan and Timothy. He has 10 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Peter was a most loving father and grandfather to us all and put his life into "training us up in the way we should go."
“The Lord has given and the Lord has taken away, blessed be the Name of the Lord!”
