SANDPOINT, IDAHO — The competition was fierce, the gutter balls were expensive, and the generosity was extraordinary!
On Sunday, October 25, approximately 50 automotive professionals and their families gathered at 7B Lanes for the inaugural Roll for Repairs Bowling Tournament & NASCAR Watch Party, generating an impressive $8,776 while celebrating the local businesses that keep Bonner County moving.
While NASCAR's Talladega race played on the screens, the real action was happening on the lanes, where automotive professionals traded their tools for bowling balls and brought plenty of competitive spirit, laughter, and camaraderie.
"These are the people who keep Bonner County moving every single day, and today they showed us that their hearts are every bit as impressive as their expertise," said Katie Begalke, Executive Director of the Community Resource EnVision Center. "Watching these businesses come together, cheer each other on, and so enthusiastically give back to their neighbors was something really special. We couldn't have asked for a better inaugural event!"
196 Gutter Balls Never Felt So Good!
One of the day's biggest hits was the tournament's creative Pit Stop Penalties, which encouraged bowlers to pay a little extra for every spare, split, and gutter ball thrown.
And apparently, Bonner County's automotive professionals are better at fixing cars than bowling!
Over just two games, the teams collectively threw an astonishing 196 gutter balls, generating $980 in penalties from gutter balls alone! Combined with penalties for spares and splits, the good-natured competition raised $1,280 to help neighbors facing unexpected vehicle repair expenses.
The event's 50/50 raffle, generously seeded by Emerald Automotive, grew to $1,080, thanks in part to an extraordinary show of support from Six Star Automotive, which purchased $500 in raffle tickets! Lucky winner Jessie Turner took home $540, while the remaining $540 went to Love in Action Idaho.
Together, the raffle and Pit Stop Penalties generated $1,820 for Love in Action Idaho, a valued financial assistance partner of the Community Resource EnVision Center.
The two organizations work together to help residents navigate unexpected hardships. The EnVision Center meets with clients, identifies needs, connects them with resources, and walks alongside them through the process, while Love in Action Idaho helps provide the financial assistance needed to fulfill eligible requests.
For seniors on fixed incomes, working families, and individuals who depend on their vehicles to maintain employment, even a relatively modest repair can create significant hardship.
Bragging Rights and Big Hearts
The competition was every bit as entertaining as organizers had hoped, with several automotive businesses earning special recognition:
Roll for Repairs Champions: Pierce Automotive, taking home top honors for the highest combined team score.
The Prestigious Lube League Award: Grizzly Glass, whose impressive $218 in Pit Stop Penalties earned them the distinction of the day's most generous penalty contributors!
Best Dressed Team: Emerald Automotive, who brought an unforgettable level of creativity and team spirit to the lanes.
But perhaps the greatest win of all is that the generosity didn't end when the bowling stopped.
Melody Muffler and Emerald Automotive also committed to providing Community Resource EnVision Center clients with 10–20% discounts on automotive services through the remainder of 2026 and throughout 2027, extending the tournament's impact well beyond a single afternoon.
A Win for Local Businesses and Local Families
For the EnVision Center, the success of Roll for Repairs wasn't measured in fundraising dollars alone.
"We believe community partnerships should be a win for everyone involved," said Begalke. "We're thrilled that this event allowed us to raise meaningful funds for our neighbors while also putting money back into a locally owned business. When we can strengthen our nonprofit community and support the small businesses that make Bonner County special, that's a win-win worth celebrating."
Of the $8,776 generated, $6,236 will support the Community Resource EnVision Center and Love in Action Idaho, after the event's bowling alley hosting allocation and 50/50 raffle payout. These funds will help strengthen the community's network of resource navigation, financial assistance, and support for neighbors facing difficult circumstances.
An Industry That Showed Up for Its Community
The inaugural tournament brought together teams representing Six Star Automotive, Grizzly Glass, Fox Autobody, Mike White Ford (with two teams!), Pierce Automotive, Emerald Automotive, North Idaho Towing, Northwest Autobody, Melody Muffler, 5th Avenue Car Wash, and Turner Pro Wraps & Apparel.
The event was made possible through the generosity of local automotive businesses and community partners, including Presenting Sponsor Turner Pro Wraps & Apparel, Beer Sponsor Nelson Automotive, Pizza Sponsor Perfection Tire & Auto Repair, Family Fun Sponsor 5th Avenue Car Wash, and raffle supporter Emerald Automotive.
Special appreciation goes to Laurie and Ryan at 7B Lanes, who first approached the EnVision Center two years ago with the idea of hosting a bowling tournament, and to dedicated volunteers Sheila Toldness and Brigette Kucherry, whose efforts helped bring that vision to life.
"What struck me most wasn't just the money raised. It was the genuine camaraderie," Begalke added. "These businesses compete for customers every day, but today they came together as one industry, united by the desire to take care of their community. That's the kind of spirit that makes Bonner County such a remarkable place to call home."
With an enthusiastic inaugural tournament in the books, organizers hope Roll for Repairs will become an annual tradition, bringing the automotive industry together year after year to celebrate the people and businesses who keep North Idaho moving.
