Daylight Savings time ends on Sunday, Nov. 1, at 2 a.m. Set your clocks back an hour (fall back) before you go to bed on Saturday, Halloween night.

Democracy is a messy business and requires work, including voting. Don’t vote for someone you think will win. Vote for someone you want to win. Make an informed choice.

Go with a friend and then celebrate your civic duty! You may vote on or before Election Day, Tuesday, Nov. 3. Voting by mail is easy to sign up for and convenient. Although it’s too late now to mail ballots, you can still vote in person or turn yours in at the Election Office in the new Lake County Annex Building.

Our transportation department offers round-trip rides for $8 to places within a five-mile radius of the Polson Senior Center on weekdays only; make reservations on the day before (or earlier). A ride to and/or from the Senior Center is available at a discounted rate. No driver is available from 11 a.m. to noon.

Lunch is served from 11:45 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Monday-Friday ($5 donation; $10 without a completed MASTS form). Milk is available with all meals.

Delivered meals are only available to those who qualify according to our guidelines and recipients must pre-register 24 hours in advance for delivery.

The menu (subject to substitutions) witches’ stew (raven?) in a cauldron, frog-eye salad and petrified pumpkin bars, Oct. 30 (costume up for Halloween!); tomato soup with cheesy bread, Nov. 2; goulash, Nov. 3 (vote before you eat!); baked chicken, Nov. 4; BBQ ribs, Nov. 5; and ham and cheese sub sandwiches, Nov. 6.

Activities at the center include bingo at 6 p.m. Fridays and card bingo, 6 p.m. on the first and third Wednesdays; pinochle, 12:30 p.m. Monday, no pass, and Thursdays, pass four (new and old players welcome); pool table available 8 a.m.-3 p.m. daily; mahjong and bridge, noon Wednesdays (looking for substitutes and regular players); and exercise class (low impact and video-assisted), 10:30-11:30 a.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

Spinning Wheelers meet 11 a.m.-1 p.m. on the second and fourth Tuesdays (call 208-520-1013); and the veterans service officer visits the center from 10 a.m.-noon on the first Friday and third Tuesday of each month (walk-ins welcome).

Our Polson Senior Citizens community center provides space for individuals and groups to meet for physical and mental health, social and educational purposes, and may be reserved for special events on weekends and evenings. We are open 8 a.m.-3 p.m. weekdays, or later by appointment.
