'Sweaty Yeti' run to help Cup of Grace

Area residents are invited to join the upcoming "Sweaty Yeti" turkey trot fun run planned for Thanksgiving Day.

Sponsored by Retrofit Athletic, the run will begin at 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 26, at 6147 W. Maine St., Spirit Lake.

Proceeds will benefit Cup of Grace.

"This community 5K and 10K welcomes runners and walkers for a fun, active start to Thanksgiving while supporting a local cause," said Retro Athletics owner Meghan Mitchell.

Entry is $35 for the 5K version of the race and $50 for the 10K version. Kids 12 years old and under can run at no charge, but must be accompanied by a paid adult. While adults who register by Nov. 15 will receive a T-shirt, youth 12 and under will not receive a T-shirt, organizers said.

Every race entry enters participants into a drawing for a Yeti cooler.

Last year, the race raised more than $5,200 toward the VFW Hall’s roof.

"We’re excited to continue that tradition of giving back and bring our community together again this Thanksgiving," Mitchell said.

Cup of Grace is a faith-based nonprofit agency founded in January 2017 by Amy Privitt. Inspired by James 2, Privitt wanted to put her faith into action by helping people in her community, according to the organization's website.

"Whether it is a meal, clothing, emergency financial assistance, or fellowship in prayer, Cup of Grace is here to help our neighbors," Cup of Grace officials said on the website.

The group aims to provide access to food, clothing and social services to those in need in the community.

"We encourage people to get acquainted with each other and help one another so that no one has to rely solely on government programs or outside agencies for help during difficult times," officials said. "We strive to step up and meet the needs of our neighbors, whatever those needs may be."
