The Pack played with all their hearts Thursday evening.
Audrey Mitchell had 13 kills and a block as Glacier defeated Flathead in a three-set sweep at the Wolf Den as both teams capped off their regular seasons.
“We are happy, but we are not surprised because we know what this team is capable of,” Glacier coach Jaimie Nelson said.
Mitchell added two aces for the Wolfpack, who won the sets 25-18, 25-17, 25-20.
Allie Krueger added nine kills and 2.5 blocks, including an emphatic block late in set three to put Glacier up 23-16.
Glacier started hot in the opening set, Riding two early aces from Mitchell and Isabella Evans to a 14-11 lead.
Flathead had a response as Reilly Judd served an ace, but Glacier still led 22-18 and was able to see out the final three points to take set one.
Flathead’s service was a trouble spot for Glacier in the first Crosstown meeting, but Glacier senior Addison Thramer said the team was ready to counter it.
“We worked a lot this week with having our girls serve as hard as they can,” Thramer said. “We were able to challenge ourselves and when they challenged us tonight we were able to handle it better.”
In the second set Krueger showed up early, getting four kills to put Glacier in front 16-11.
Again Flathead didn’t roll over though, as Brynn Kossman tried to spark life into the Bravettes with a kill that kept Glacier’s lead at five, 21-16. The Wolfpack ended that momentum quickly though, taking three of the next four points to win the set.
Set three started off looking like a Wolfpack runaway, as Glacier jumped out to a 9-1 advantage thanks in part to back-to-back aces from Ella Hummer.
Flathead battled back to cut the deficit to 11-9, but Glacier was too much on the evening as they never trailed in the final set and Mitchell’s second ace sealed the deal on match point.
Glacier (10-8 overall and 9-5 in Western AA matches) now moves on to a Wednesday Western AA play-in match against Butte at 6 p.m. at the Wolf Den.
“This game definitely gives us a leg up and something to fight for, especially coming out with such high energy,” Evans said. “Winning in three is such a huge accomplishment for this team and I think this gives us something to fight for in the playoffs.”
Flathead ends its season at 3-16 overall and 3-11 in Western AA matches.
