A Whitefish man suspected of planning to die at the hands of deputies in mid-October is now facing a slew of charges in Flathead County District Court.
Christopher Allan Large, 42, is expected to be arraigned on felony assault on a peace officer and intimidation as well as misdemeanor counts of endangering the welfare of children and partner or family member assault before Judge Danni Coffman on Nov. 19. Large remains in the county jail with bail set at $150,000.
Flathead County Sheriff's Office deputies headed to Large's U.S. 93 home about 4:20 p.m., Oct. 17 after he and his girlfriend began arguing, according to court documents. She accused Large of yelling and screaming at her before breaking a chair and throwing a water jug, which struck her in the back, court documents said.
Large allegedly also threw a phone at his girlfriend and demanded she call the police. He threatened to kill one of the couple's children if she disobeyed, court documents said.
When the authorities arrived, they found Large in the road in front of his home holding a 12-inch knife in his right hand. When one of the deputies pulled out a rifle, Large allegedly urged them to pull the trigger.
Large eventually began walking toward the deputies — ignoring instructions to stop — with the knife in his hand, court documents said. After being struck with less-lethal rounds, Large let go of the blade and dropped to the ground, according to court documents.
Assault on a peace officer and intimidation are both punishable by up to 10 years behind bars and a $50,000 fine.
