Griz Mason shares Big Sky special teams honor

Montana defensive lineman Jake Mason, who blocked a PAT kick after Southern Utah tied the score at 21-all Saturday night, was named co-Special Teams Player of the Week by the Big Sky Conference on Monday. 

Mason, a senior transfer from the University of Washington, also made six tackles with with one tackle for loss in UM’s 28-21 win. He shared the special teams award with Northern Arizona freshman Lindsey Gaves, who had 100-yard kickoff return that sparked the Lumberjacks back from a 24-3 deficit to a 34-27 victory over Eastern Washington on Friday. 

Offensive Player of the Week Honors went to Cal Poly quarterback Anthony Grigsby, Jr. The fifth-year transfer by way of College of San Mateo and Nevada threw for 319 yards and four touchdowns in the Mustangs’ 38-34 win over Eastern Washington Friday. That included a 34-yard strike to Tayvion McCoy with 9 seconds left. Grigsby was 26 of 35 passing for 319 yards and had a 15-yard scoring run. 

Idaho State freshman defensive lineman Trehsyn Fesill landed Defensive Player of the Week honors after making two tackles for loss and a sack and forcing and recovering a fumble in the Bengals’ 38-10 win over VMI on Saturday.
