PREP FOOTBALL: Coeur du Christ spoils Clark Fork’s opener

WORLEY — Clark Fork High couldn’t contain Coeur du Christ’s offense in its season opener, falling 46-14 to the 1A North Star rival Saints. 

Coeur du Christ’s senior Jon Denke totaled two touchdowns and returned a fumble for a score in the game. Saints quarterback Grant Clemens threw two scores, one to Eli Zember and another to Beckett Beyer, according to the Coeur d’Alene Press. 

“I’m proud of how our guys responded. We regrouped at halftime, settled in and started playing our style of football," Clark Fork head coach Andre Johansen said of the second half. "Becker found the end zone, Mayorga made some big plays defensively and backup QB Bodie Scarlett connected with Matthias Raynor in the final seconds. We’re a team learning how to play together and persevere. That second half showed a lot of heart and fight, and that’s something we can build on.”

The Wampus Cats are back in action next Friday for a road game against the Lewis County Co-Op at 7 p.m. in Craigmont, Idaho.
