Sally Jane Clutter, 90

Sally Jane Clutter, 90, of Hayden, Idaho, passed away Aug. 26, 2026, at her home, leaving behind a remarkable legacy of family, faith, generosity, and a life spent caring for and celebrating others.

Sally was born Sept. 3, 1935, in Longmont, Colo., to Murlin David “Murl” Frank and Frances Gertrude Barrett. The fifth of seven children, Sally grew up in a loving home in Cupertino, Calif., and graduated from Fremont High School in Sunnyvale.

In 1955, Sally met the love of her life, Donald Dwain Clutter. After a courtship of just four days, they married in Reno, Nev., and shared 54 years of marriage until Don’s passing in 2009.

Together, Sally and Donald welcomed four children: Randy, Patty, Rick, and Rhonda. In 1969, they moved their family from California to Hayden, where they made their home on Ramsey Road. It was there that they raised their children, welcomed foster children, and created a home that would become an important part of their family's story for generations. There were summers on the porch, holidays together, raspberries, cherries, and corn that became part of family lore.

Sally loved that her family had the opportunity to grow up surrounded by the outdoors, sports, 4-H, animals, cooking, and farming. Her involvement with 4-H did not end when her children grew up. Sally continued sharing her enthusiasm and talents by encouraging young people through baking, crafting, and judging contests.

Sally was also a founding member, longtime elder, and active member of Faith Presbyterian Church in Hayden for more than 30 years. Her faith was expressed through service. She devoted countless hours to the church and its youth, including weekly Bible study and leading Vacation Bible School during the summers.

Sally was kind and generous, hardworking and social, funny and feisty. She had an eye for style, fashion, and décor and was the ultimate host. She delighted in dinner parties, birthdays, holidays, and any opportunity to bring people together. Celebrating life was a theme throughout Sally's own life; laughter was rarely far away, and she remained a kid at heart.

Above all else, Sally loved taking care of people, and her family was everything to her. She treasured her grandchildren and never passed up an opportunity to hold a baby. Her family will remember holidays at Grandma's house, summers spent on the porch, her famously themed Christmas trees, and the seemingly perfect dessert that appeared for every occasion.

Sally is survived by her children: Randy Clutter, Patty Collins, Rick Clutter (Marcy), and Rhonda Callegari (Jeff); her grandchildren: Cliff Jr., Holly (Joey), Molly (Daniel), Katey (Cody), Maeghan (Garrin), and Max (Cora); her great-grandchildren: Mason (Angelina), Cash, Lila, Jett, Mabel, Archie and Violet; her great-great-grandchild, Maverick; and her brother, Richard Frank (Debbie). She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Donald; her parents; five of her siblings; her son-in-law, Clifford Collins; her foster son, Bryan Hruska; and her great-granddaughter, Jovi Preston.

A funeral service celebrating Sally's life will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 3, 2026, at First Presbyterian Church, 521 E. Lakeside Ave., Coeur d'Alene, ID 83814
