Whitefish spikers down Bravettes in 4 sets

Annabelle Barrile had 10 kills and 13 digs and Whitefish went up a level and beat the Flathead Bravettes in four sets in volleyball Tuesday at the Flathead gym.

Freshman Abby Brooks added nine kills for the Class A Bulldogs, who won the match 25-15, 15-25, 25-20, 25-16. Allie Shors had six kills — all on tip-dunks at the net — to go with 20 assists and 16 digs. 

“It was hot in there,” Whitefish coach Addy Connelly said. “Both teams were pretty sweaty by the time we were done.  

“Our girls were really scrappy tonight. And it was a really nice win coming off the Butte Tip-Off tournament.” 

Flathead fell to 0-3 — the Bravettes lost in four and five sets on Saturday in Great Falls — despite 14 kills from Makenna Aldrich and 10 from Brynn Kossman. 

“We tried a totally new lineup tonight, trying to get the ball to Brynn Kossman a little bit more,” Flathead coach Carol Asplund said. “There were moments of greatness, but I’m throwing a lot of stuff at them right now. I’m starting to see it seep in, which is great. 

“They’re getting better at working at a system, but it takes discipline. So that’s what we’re working on, discipline. 

Riley Judd had 27 digs and three aces for the Bravettes; Raegan Castillo had 15 digs. Anna Baine had 22 assists and Cheyenne Heino added 12. 

Flathead brings in Bozeman and Gallatin for matches Saturday.

Whitefish’s next match is Tuesday with visiting Frenchtown.
