Douglas 'Doug' Brown Sr., 79

Douglas 'Doug' Brown Sr., 79, was born to Ray & Lorene Brown in Whitefish on Oct. 3, 1946.

While the family lived and farmed NW of Cut Bank, they welcomed Doug’s sister Carla and his brother Dan. 

Doug finished at the top of his class in the eighth grade at Winkler Country School, but he was the only one in the eighth grade that year. In 1961, they moved back to Whitefish. After High School, he entered the army in 1965 and served for two years including time in Vietnam. 

Doug met his wife, Pam Smith. They married in July 1968. They had four children: Doug Jr., Lori, David, & Danelle.

He was preceded in death by his infant daughter Lori; sister Carla Neugebauer; great grandsons Hunter and Easton; and all of his ancestors.

Doug made his living in the timber industry from falling timber through hauling logs with his self-loading log truck. He also spent many years with the Whitefish Police Department. He will be remembered more for his amazing ability to barbecue hogs for many wedding receptions, and other parties, including about 30 years for Log Jam. 

Doug was co-founder of Log Jam Inc. and a board member from the beginning. He enjoyed hunting camp with family and friends. He also enjoyed having a “couple” of beers while visiting with his friends and watching the boat launch with his wife.

Doug passed from natural causes on Aug. 25.

He is survived by his wife Pam; sons Doug Jr. (Becky) and David (Diane); and daughter Danelle; eight grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; and brother Dan (Gayle).

A celebration of life will be at 3 p.m. on Sept. 12 at the Whitefish VFW.
