The St. Regis Lady Tigers began season volleyball play at the Granite Tip-Off tournament in Philipsburg Saturday.

Coach Kianna Barnett said her very young Tigers lost one-game round robin matches with Seeley-Swan (25-14) and Noxon (25-19) and defeated Superior (25-18) in P-burg.

“We are a very young team this year, with four of our starters graduating last year,” she said. “While they are young, they have been working hard all summer and into the beginning of the season.”

Barnett said Khila Teeters (12 digs and five kills), Daisy Sansom (three blocks) and Jacey Pruitt (six assists) were the Tigers’ statistical team leaders in Philipsburg.

“For many girls, it was their first varsity level competition, so they were able to get a feel for the pace and intensity of that level of play,” she said. “It was a good learning experience for sure.”

The Tigers return to the court playing at Hot Springs Thursday.

“We are excited for the next couple weeks, first Hot Springs, then three matches the following week,” she said. “We are going to work on fine tuning systems and building confidence as a team.”
