LIBBY — An impressive run from junior Kai Budensiek helped the Sandpoint boys cross country team earn a second-place finish at the Libby Cross Country Meet last Friday.
Sandpoint’s star junior won the men's varsity 5K by eight seconds over Coeur d’Alene’s Wyatt Morgenstern, setting a personal best with a final time of 15:31.98. Budensiek’s strong performance was backed up by sophomore Cy Marshall, who finished eighth with a 16:05.13, helping the Sandpoint boys notch a podium finish at the meet.
Landon Connor’s 11th-place finish, 16:06.75, and Hobbes Conley’s 18th-place finish, 16:26.87, scored points for the Bulldogs.
Junior Delaney Barron led the way for Sandpoint’s girls team, finishing 10th with a final time of 20:02.56. Just behind Barron, junior Ruthie Laughridge, 20:12.96, finished 12th, and senior Elizabeth Storms, 20:24.00, finished 14th to create a scoring block that helped the Bulldogs place second in the girls competition as well.
Charli Hall and Sophie Brubaker finished right next to each other to round out the scoring for the Bulldogs.
Sandpoint head coach Mike Ehredt said he was very proud of how his teams performed; both finished second to 6A Coeur d’Alene.
