Very green Red Devils open season at St. Regis

The Red Devils are very green this season but that’s missing the point, coach Lucas MacArthur said.
“We know we are very, very green this season,” MacArthur said. "But we have kids that want to play, and our goal is to grow as we go.”
The Noxon Red Devils opened 6-Man football season play at St. Regis in a game arranged at the last minute, and fell to the Tiger Cats, a State 8-Man playoff team last fall, 61-14 Friday. With both teams facing canceled dates last week, school officials got together and put together the special 6-Man game.
The Devils continue season play hosting Highwood in an actual 6-Man game in Noxon Friday.
“We knew it would be tough playing a good 8-Man team like St. Regis,” MacArthur said. “But they were great in getting us scheduled in and we did some growing Friday night. I think we will be all right in the long run.”
Bolstering MacArthur’s positive thinking is the presence of new assistant coach Ben Parker and his team’s positive attitude in the face of adversity. “Ben has been great to have on the sidelines and in practice,” he said. “And the kids played with a good attitude. We just need to figure out our roles a little better and we will get better with time.”

The Thompson Falls-Plains-St. Regis Blue Hawk girls opened season soccer plays with a couple great efforts on the pitch, playing well but falling 4-0 to Loyola Friday, and battling Polson to a 1-1 draw on their own field Saturday. Both matches were played in Polson.
