13-run first inning carries Raptors past Riders

OGDEN, Utah — A 13-run first inning by the Ogden Raptors was too much overcome, as the Glacier Range Riders lost a 21-15 slugfest in Pioneer League baseball action Thursday.
Garrett Bevacqua, Cole Jordan and Giusseppe Ferraro-Nahr all hit two-run home runs in that first inning for the Raptors (21-24 this half), and Chase Valentine’s three-run shot in the second made it 16-0.
From there the Range Riders (21-24) battled back, starting with six runs in the fourth inning, highlighted by a three-run homer from Brock Tibbits, his first, and a two-run shot from Kyle Ashworth.
Carson Hornung hit a two-run home run in the fifth, chasing Ogden ace Nico Saltaformaggio, and Carson Garner and Jake Millan hit homers in the sixth. Millan’s team-leading 20th round-tripper cut the gap to 17-11, but Ogden found yet more offense.
The Range Riders went to outfielder J.D. McLaughlin on the mound in the sixth and he threw three innings, allowing one hit but eight walks and four runs (two earned). He fanned two.
The six-game series continued Friday.
