Correction: Sheriff is still coroner

Lake County Leader | UPDATED 3 days, 9 hours AGO

Last week’s Leader story, titled “County officials, employees to receive 4% salary boost,” erroneously claimed that the county had a new part-time coroner, who would receive $15,662, or 20% of the sheriff’s salary.

Lake County Sheriff Coroner Don Bell pointed out that he serves as both sheriff and coroner, as stipulated by county statute. And since it’s an elected position, one duty can’t be separated from the other.

Under the new salary plan, the sheriff will earn $78,312, plus $2,000 as stipulated by state code, and an additional $15,662 for his duties as coroner.

Our apologies to Sheriff Bell.
