RATHDRUM — Led by another stellar round by Hannah Majors, the Sandpoint High girls golf team took home second place in a 5A competition at the Twin Lakes Golf Course on Wednesday. 

Majors shot an 87 for the Bulldogs, the second-best score of any girls player at the invite, helping the Bulldogs to a 404 final total, 20 short of the victorious Lakeland team. Ella Mahlum also had a very solid round, shooting a 93 which was tied for the third-best score of any girl golfer. 

Sandpoint’s Hailey Gove shot a 107 and Evey Walker shot an 117 to round out the scoring for the Bulldogs. Ysabelle Lopez totaled a 126, but the final score did not count toward the team’s final total.  

On the boys side, the Bulldogs finished fourth out of the four teams at the meet. Sandpoint golf head coach Mike Deprez said that the Twin Lakes Golf Course is far different from The Links in Post Falls, where the school will host state, and used the invite as an opportunity for younger players to get competitive reps. 

The Bulldogs were led by Drake Reid with an 83 final score and backed up by Rajah Brown, 90, and Maverik Rohm, 91. Ryan Yake capped off the scoring with a 103-score day, while Jamen Jesen’s 115 was not counted toward Sandpoint’s final score. 

The Sandpoint golf team will have to wait two weeks before its next meet, when they head to the Lewiston Country Club for the Lewiston meet.
