'Every Brilliant Thing' coming to Moscow and Coeur d'Alene

In honor of National Suicide Prevention Month, the University of Idaho and North Idaho College are teaming up to bring "Every Brilliant Thing" to the Forge Theater in Moscow on Sept. 12-13 and the Boswell Hall Schuler Performing Arts Center in Coeur d'Alene on Sept. 17-18.

Written by Duncan Macmillan and Jonny Donahoe, "Every Brilliant Thing" is a solo performance by an unnamed narrator. Through humor and audience participation, the play offers a cathartic exploration of depression and suicide. The production made its Broadway debut this year, with Daniel Radcliffe earning a Tony Award nomination for his performance.

This University of Idaho and North Idaho College production stars Craig A. Miller, associate professor of acting and directing at North Idaho College, as the narrator. The production is sponsored by Idaho Repertory Theatre, the University of Idaho Office of the Vice Provost for Academic Initiatives, the University of Idaho Dean of Students Office and Vandal Health Education.

"I'm thrilled to be producing "Every Brilliant Thing" once again and to have the unique opportunity to share this remarkable play with NIC students and the Coeur d'Alene community in a co-production with NIC's Department of Theatre," said Robert Caisley, chair of the University of Idaho's Department of Theatre Arts. "We hope the show resonates just as deeply at NIC and has the same lasting impact there that it has had on our campus and community."

Performances in Moscow are scheduled for Sept. 12 at 7:30 p.m. and Sept. 13 at 2 p.m. Tickets are free for University of Idaho students. General admission is $10, with proceeds supporting suicide awareness efforts on campus. Tickets are available online at uitickets.com.

Coeur d'Alene performances are Sept. 17 and Sept. 18 at 7 p.m. Admission is free, but reservations are required by emailing [email protected].
