Polson's Max Milton cruises to Helena Invite title

HELENA — Have a couple days, Max Milton.  

The Polson junior lit up the Bill Roberts Golf Course for rounds of 63 and 64 to win boys medalist honors by 10 strokes at the Helena Invitational, which concluded Thursday.

Milton led Polson to a third-place finish in the team standings, which included eight Class AA teams.  He had one bogey, on Friday, to go with nine birdies each day on the way to a 17-under-par finish. 

Helena Capital’s Jayce Belzer shot a 67 on Thursday to finish second at 7-under 137; Capital won the boys team title by 16 strokes over Missoula Sentinel, 567-583. 

Glacier’s Torren Murray was one of seven golfers to break par at the tournament; he had rounds of 69 and 70 and tied with Capital’s John Gilbert for third at 139.  

Murray’s teammate Tripp O’Boye had a total of 146 to tie for seventh and the Wolfpack finished fifth in the team standings. 

Flathead finished ninth, with Teegan Eisenzimer among five players tied for 27th at 162. 

Missoula Big Sky (712) won the girls team title with Polson (741) a distant second and Sentinel (742) third. 

Sentinel’s Maci Reiff was girls medalist, with a two-day total of 161. Tied for second were Big Sky’s Charlotte Dale and Glacier’s Maggie Mitton. 

Mitton had one of two sub-80 rounds at the tournament, a 79 on Wednesday; Reiff shot a 76 the same day. 

Glacier and Flathead finished seventh and eighth; Flathead’s top finisher was Becky Schmidt, whose total of 192 tied her for 17th.
