The temps in North Idaho have dropped and invited a fall breeze to the northernmost counties — which means prep football must be in full swing. 

Thankfully, it is, and every high school in Bonner and Boundary Counties is getting in on the action this Friday. Here are all four matchups and what to look for as the season kicks into high gear. 

All times are in PDT. 

Sandpoint (2-0) @ Post Falls (0-1), 7 p.m. 

After narrowly clinching a 2-0 start against the 6A Kuna Kavemen, the 5A Sandpoint Bulldogs will stay on the road for a showdown with the 6A Post Falls Trojans. 

Sandpoint has won both its games in thrilling fashion and needed massive contributions from senior Brock Yarbrough in all three phases of the game to earn its undefeated start. There’s no doubt that No. 10 will be a key player again for the Bulldogs and will be a must-watch against Post Falls. 

Another must-watch player will be Sandpoint’s quarterback Logan Iverson, who is off to a breakout start in his first two games at the helm of the Bulldogs’ offense. Iverson has totaled 535 passing yards, six total touchdowns and one interception.  

On the defensive end, safety Jack Schriber has been spectacular. The senior is tied with Yarbrough with a team-high 16 tackles and has grabbed an interception in both Bulldogs’ games this year.  

Post Falls is fresh off a 35-22 loss to 5A Lewiston in its season opener, where it struggled to find an offensive rhythm. Sandpoint will look to keep them it off balance and move to 3-0, just as it did in 2025. 

Priest River (0-1) vs Timberlake (1-0), 7 p.m. 

The Spartan faithful will get their first look at the 2026 Priest River Lamanna squad on Friday against 4A Timberlake at Spartan Stadium on Friday night. 

The 3A Spartans are looking to bounce back from a season-opening 31-20 loss to 4A Bonners Ferry. Priest River found its offensive footing late against the Badgers, scoring all 20 of its points in the second half, and will need to carry that performance into this week. 

Spartans’ running back Colton Kuprienko will be key for Priest River. The senior is the engine of Priest River’s offense and propelled the team’s second-half performance a week ago. Junior quarterback Jacob Best will look to shake off his week one performance and find star Layton Goins, who scored a 72-yard touchdown against the Badgers, a few more times against the Tigers. 

Timberlake is riding high after they thrashed St. Maries 61-12 in their opener last Friday. The Spartans will need to slow the Tigers’ Ryker Brennan, who had three touchdowns in the first quarter last week, and William Vallieres, who had over 140 yards and two scores against the Lumberjacks. 

Clark Fork (0-1) @ Lewis County (1-1), 4 p.m. 

While head coach Andre Johansen’s debut for Clark Fork didn’t go in their favor, the Wampus Cats will look to build on a successful second half on the road against Lewis County this Friday. 

Lewis County, of Craigmont, Idaho, got their first win last week in a 44-6 thumping of Troy High from Montana. The Wampus Cats should be evenly matched with the Eagles in this 8-man showdown as they look for their first win of the season. 

Bonners Ferry (2-0) vs St. Maries (0-1), 7 p.m. 

Sandpoint isn’t the only team up north chasing a 3-0 start as Bonners Ferry is also aiming for a perfect start as they host the St. Maries Lumberjacks at Mendenhall Stadium on Friday. 

The story of the Badgers’ season has been their suffocating defense, which has held opponents to an average of 13 points per game and generated six turnovers through two games. Two of those turnovers have come from star two-way player Alex Stolley, who has nabbed an interception in each of the Badgers’ games. 

Stolley also leads Bonners Ferry’s offense as the starting quarterback, delivering two quality performances on the ground and in the air to open the season. If he can continue to power the Badgers' offense, they could cruise to a 3-0 start for the second year in a row.
