POST FALLS — There’s a multitude of feelings that one experiences when riding a rollercoaster. There’s the boredom of waiting in line, excitement of strapping in and the pit that develops in your stomach as you head for a massive drop. 

Those feelings also aptly describe how one feels watching Sandpoint football in 2026. The Bulldogs survived another ride in Post Falls on Friday night, downing the Trojans 31-28 in a non-league matchup at Post Falls High. 

"It’s just such a rollercoaster throughout the game,” Sandpoint head coach Ryan Knowles said. “You gotta keep it cool and ride the highs and the lows.” 

Sandpoint came out in blazing fashion with a three-play touchdown drive to open the game. The quick drive was bookended by a 55-yard connection from Bulldogs quarterback Logan Iverson to Knox Williams, who scooted past the Trojans defense for an early score. 

Post Falls didn’t go easily, though, and their quarterback Griffin Carpenter powered them to two touchdowns in the first half to give them a narrow 14-13 lead at halftime. 

"We weren’t executing in the beginning, and when our guys settled down and realized what they were supposed to do, it all settled down, and we took care of business,” Knowles said of his defense holding the Trojans scoreless until late in the fourth quarter. “The adjustments weren’t a lot; it was more coaching and the players settling in.” 

After a third quarter filled with scoreless football, Sandpoint was standing on the edge of disaster. Post Falls had the ball within Sandpoint’s 10-yard line and threatened to extend their narrow advantage. However, a perfectly timed blitz and two personal fouls against Post Falls denied the Trojans their chance, setting up a 4th-and-44 and knocking them out of field goal range.  

The exhilaration of the rollercoaster ride soon followed. 

On their first offensive play, Iverson threw to wide receiver Jack Schriber in the backfield, who bought an extra second and found his quarterback on a wheel route for a 30-yard pickup. Knowles said the Bulldogs practice the trick play frequently, but even he didn’t know it was coming.  

From there, Sandpoint’s offense regained its composure and went on to score 18 unanswered points. 

"What you saw from the offense on those couple of drives is the expectation,” Knowles said. ‘We haven’t been playing to the expectation much, and I challenge the guys to play more consistently.” 

All of those points came at the hands of, or, in the case of the late 20-yard field goal, the leg of, Sandpoint’s senior star Brock Yarbrough. The Bulldogs’ do-it-all player racked up over 200 yards, three touchdown receptions and grabbed an interception in the third quarter to help extend the Bulldogs’ winning streak to three. 

“He’s making big plays every game,” Knowles said of Yarbrough. “It’s just amazing.” 

While the Bulldogs had seemingly locked up the game with a three-score lead and two minutes left, the Trojans weren’t done with the excitement. Carpenter marched his Trojans down the field for a quick score, then single-handedly scored a second touchdown after Post Falls recovered an onside kick to make it 31-28. 

With pits firmly planted in the stomachs of the Sandpoint faithful, the Bulldogs recovered the ensuing onside kick. Two long runs from Jensen Sheetz, who totaled 69 yards on the night, put the game on ice for Sandpoint. 

"I would have loved to see us be able to finish that off when it’s 31-14 and get off the field,” Knowles said. “But every team has to go through its lessons and figure things out. I think there’s a lot of valuable lessons learned tonight.” 

With their second victory over a 6A school, Sandpoint improved to 3-0. The Bulldogs will play host to Bonners Ferry next Friday at 7 p.m. at War Memorial Field.
