Glacier National Park preemptively closes Going-to-the Sun Road

Glacier National Park has preemptively closed the alpine section of the Going-to-the-Sun Road, as a strong rainstorm is expected until Tuesday. The National Weather Service has issued a flood watch for the area.
Thunderstorms capable of .75 to 1 inch of rain per hour could happen today (Sept. 6) and then an extended period of heavy rain is expected with 2 to 4 inches in the higher terrain, especially along the Continental Divide and in Glacier, the weather service is warning.
The road closure will extend from Avalanche to Jackson Glacier Overlook.
The Logan Pass Shuttle will not run Labor Day, which was the last day of service for the season.
Visitors should expect detours, delays, and limited access while crews respond to hazardous conditions created by fast‑moving water, debris, and saturated soils.
The park service said it will evaluate and re-open areas when conditions improve.
