NIC ROUNDUP: Cardinal volleyball takes two in Kansas

COFFEYVILLE, Kan. — North Idaho College improved to 9-4 on the season with a pair of wins to conclude play in the Red Raven Volleyball Tournament at Coffeyville Community College on Saturday. 

NIC defeated Independence Community College of Kansas 25-16, 25-18, 25-20, then beat Northeastern Oklahoma A&M of Miami, Okla., 27-25, 25-13, 23-25, 25-22 to conclude the tournament 3-1. 

Camryn Farrar, a freshman from Coeur d'Alene High had 25 kills and 23 digs. Mikayla Esquivel and Cynthia Reyes Valencia combined for 38 kills, Taylin, Everingham had 33 digs and Zoe Galbreath 33 assists for NIC on the day.

NIC returns to action against Central Wyoming College and Lamar Community College in the Otero (Kan.) tournament starting on Friday.

KENNEWICK, Wash. — Sebastiano Casini, a sophomore midfielder from Bologna, Italy, notched a hat trick for the Cardinals in their Scenic West Conference opening win over the Gladiators. 

Tom Renner, a freshman midfielder from Frankfurt, Germany, had two goals and an assist for NIC (4-0-1). 

The game was called due to the mercy rule after 70 minutes. 

NIC returns to conference play on Thursday against the College of Southern Idaho at Founders Park in Jerome.

KENNEWICK, Wash. — Madeline Cook, a sophomore forward from Brighton, Australia, recorded a hat trick for the Cardinals in a win over the Gladiators in the Scenic West Athletic Conference opener for both programs. 

Hannah Rommes, a sophomore midfielder from Grants Pass, Ore., had two first half goals for NIC (4-1-1), which led 9-0 at halftime. 

“It was a game where we knew if we played well, we’d get some goal scoring opportunities,” NIC coach Luke Babson said. “We came out and tried to win the game in the first half. It was really nice to be balanced in the attack.”
