Range Riders’ rally comes up short in final game

OGDEN, Utah — Down big early, the Glacier Range Riders scored the last nine runs of their final game of the Pioneer League season and came up one short, 12-11, against Ogden Sunday.
Logan Beard and Brock Vradenburg hit two home runs each for the Range Riders, who won 14 of their last 17 games to finish the second half 23-25 (53-45 overall). Vradenburg had four hits, drove in four runs and scored three times.
Kyle Ashworth and Jake Millan also homered: Ashworth’s shot was his third in the last four games; he hit .346 this season. Millan homered for the fourth straight game and finished with a team-best 23.
Ashworth and Vradenburg, who hit .361, homered in the first inning to put Glacier up 2-0, but Ogden scored the next 12 runs against Range Riders starter Zach Lonshore (10-5).
Tyler Stone and Luke Hyzdu hit two-run homers in a five-run second inning for the Raptors.
Davis Pratt and Connor Housley combined for 6 1-3 innings of scoreless relieft and Glacier starting banging away.
Beard’s home runs came in the third and fourth innings; Millan hit a solo shot in the fifth and Vradenburg’s second bomb cut it to 12-11 in the eighth.
Ashworth had a two-run single in the ninth and moved up on a wild pitch, but Beard grounded out to end the game.
Pratt allowed two hits and four walks in 4 1-3 innings, fanning six.
