Starting at 7 a.m. on a clear day late last month, fellow climber Nick Sramek and I started along Kintla Lake, our eyes set on climbing Kinnerly Mountain in Glacier National Park.

After a long approach, we reached the summit at 3 p.m. after ascending the northwest face via difficult fourth-class gullies.

There were less than 20 people who have signed its summit register in the last 10 years. We got back to the car around midnight after a long day of 25 miles and an elevation gain of 6,500 feet. You want to be in excellent shape and have climbing experience to attempt this journey.
