The Whitefish Firefighters Association invites the community to attend a special 9/11 Remembrance and Dedication Ceremony at 11 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 11 marking the 25th anniversary of the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, 2001.

The ceremony will be held at the City of Whitefish Emergency Services Center, 275 Flathead Ave, and will include the unveiling of the steel structure for the new Whitefish 9/11 Memorial. Retired New York Fire Department Lieutenant Kevin Shea will serve as the keynote speaker. The ceremony will also feature musical performances by the Whitefish High School orchestra and the Montana Bagpiper.

The Whitefish 9/11 Memorial is a community-built project being completed in two phases. Phase I includes construction of the pentagon-shaped base and installation of steel beams recovered from the World Trade Center site. This portion will be completed prior to the ceremony. Phase II will include the addition of brick plazas, landscaping and educational signage commemorating Sept. 11, 2001, and its lasting impact on the United States.

The Whitefish Firefighters Association has been raising funds for the Whitefish 9/11 Memorial through the Great Fish Community Challenge. Community members wishing to support the project can make donations through Whitefish Community Foundation’s website through 5 p.m. on Sept. 11. Additional information about this monumental project is available at Whitefish911Memorial.com.

The Whitefish Firefighters Association encourages community members to attend this meaningful ceremony as Whitefish comes together to remember and honor those who were lost, recognize the service of the heroes who responded, commemorate the 25th anniversary of September 11, 2001, and strengthen the promise to Never Forget.
