Milton was even-par on the front nine and then shot a 31 on the back, with five birdies and a bogey on 18, for a 4-under 66. Fellow Pirates Cash Brown (74) and Carson Emerson (75) were among the top 15 (plus ties), and Polson finished Day 1 with 300 strokes to 301 for Helena Capital.

Hamilton’s Cameron Burnett shot a 74 to build a six-stroke lead on the field.

Whitefish’s Karlee Brown and Gallatin’s Aspen Lura had 81s, and Glacier’s Maggie Mitton is alone in sixth at 82, and her Wolfpack sat seventh out of 11 teams.
