Now 2-0 and hungry for more, the Superior Bobcats will go to great lengths, in this case well more than 300 miles round trip, to find a football game.

Successful finally in the quest to find a new opponent after a dogged search (Troy had cancelled its season earlier and left the Bobcats’ Sept. 11 date open), coach Jeff Schultz and the Bobcats found an opponent in the Central Valley Rams of Kooskia, Idaho.

“We scoured Montana first looking for a game, couldn’t find one so we started checking around in north Idaho,” Schultz said. “Finally started searching in the central Idaho area and found one in Kooskia, a team that also needed a game and was willing to accommodate us.”

Now 1-1 after suffering a 78-44 loss to Coeur du Christ last week, the Central Valley boys may have bit off a little more than they can chew in asking the powerful Bobcats to town in Kooskia. Kickoff in Kooskia is set for 5 p.m. Friday, Schultz said. The Rams won their first game of the season, 43-6 over Lakeside two weeks ago.

Schultz said that the biggest difference between Montana and Idaho 8-Man football is that the Idaho version is played on a 100-yard field, as opposed to the 80-yard gridiron used in MT. “It will be fun playing on the big field,” Schultz offered, “it should make the game pretty wide open.”

Nothing seems to have slowed Superior down yet. The Bobcats have been almost unstoppable on offense in their first two games, an 82-18 win over Arlee two weeks ago and a 62-0 whitewashing of Charlo in Superior Saturday.

The Bobcats have been on the high-speed expressway for scoring points so far this season and Friday’s game with Charlo was no exception to that rule. Superior’s all-state trifecta of performers - Landon Richards, Turner Milender and Gannon Quinlan – led the way and the rest of the Bobcats followed.

The quarterback, Richards completed eight of eight passes for 144 yards and a touchdown besides rushing the ball twice for 79 yards and another touchdown. Milender

rushed for 70 yards and scored three TDs on the ground, and Quinlan reached paydirt twice, once on a run and once on a pass catch.

As usual this season, the Bobcat linemen dominated up front, making life easier for the skill players, reserves included.

“Those guys played well and sat down early,” Schultz said of his star trio. “But Superior 2.0 is pretty good too, we have some other players coming into their own.”

To name those offensive offenders, John Hughes gained 36 yards on two pass catches, Jackson Stedman 22 yards on two catches, six more rushing and a touchdown, and James Chapen 19 yards rushing and a touchdown.

Ethan Durovey added 21 yards rushing, Conrad Talbot pulled down two pass catches for 32 yards, Zaimon Firestone completed three of three passes for 43 yards and Deke Squier had six yards rushing.

Of statistical note, Schultz said Richards has not missed a pass yet, completing 14 of 14 attempts so far this season.
