Clark Fork 3, Kootenai Classical Academy 0

CLARK FORK — While some say home is where the heart is, for Clark Fork High, home is where the broom is. 

The Wampus Cats recorded their third straight sweep in their gym on Tuesday night, besting the Kootenai Classical Academy Kodiaks in three sets (25-10, 25-16, 25-16) in a 1A North Star League matchup, improving to 6-0. 

Clark Fork’s success from the service line continued, with the team totaling 22 aces. Freshman Molly Adams led the way with five aces, while senior Nora-Jean Hoy, sophomore Vanessa Rogier and freshman Kourtney Rogier added four each. 

“We went in knowing this would be a battle of the defenses, and emphasized taking more risks on offense,” Clark Fork head coach Lyndsie Kiebert-Carey said. “Those risks paid off, and the energy from the entire team stayed high all night, which is one of those intangibles in volleyball that actually translates to being able to finish matches.” 

Adams added seven digs to her breakout day, leading the defensive charge for the Wampus Cats.  

On offense, sophomore Kiylah Anderson totaled 14 assists while Vanessa Rogier led the team with seven kills. Hoy added four more kills with no errors to help her team sweep the Kodiaks. 

“I'm really proud of the hype from the players both on the floor and on the bench, no matter the score or circumstances,” Kiebert-Carey said. 

After a three-game stint at home, Clark Fork is back on the road for their next game against Lakeside, whom they swept on Aug. 27. The Wampus Cats will look to extend their winning streak versus the Knights in Plummer at 7 p.m. on Thursday.  

Priest River 3, Riverside 0

DEER PARK — A week off didn’t faze the Priest River Lamanna Spartans as they cruised past Riverside (WA) in a non-league matchup in three sets on Tuesday night. 

The Spartans were led offensively by junior McKinley Burgess-Duquette, who totaled 14 kills on the night. Senior Raygn Turner posted a team-high four aces, while Haylee Jepson-Church added 22 assists on the night. 

At the net, senior Rylee Dixon and freshman Ava Griesemer both had three blocks apiece. Senior Callie Stanger led the Spartans’ defense with 14 digs to help her team move to 4-1 overall.  

“We knew they'd be a team we could take, our goal was to stay locked in and focused on pushing points,” Priest River head coach Katlyn Ward said. “Because we did that, I was able to get every player on Varsity into the game for some awesome experience!” 

Priest River returns home for a league match with the Orofino Maniacs on Sept. 10 at 7 p.m. 

Lake City 3, Sandpoint 1

SANDPOINT — A dominant second set couldn’t carry the Sandpoint High Bulldogs past the Lake City High Timberwolves on Tuesday night as they fell in four sets (18-25, 25-15, 19-25, 18-25). 

Much of Sandpoint’s offense was powered from the service line with sophomore Hailey Gion and senior Marlee Land adding four aces each. Gion’s four aces came in a row and provided quality play on defense with a team-leading 13 digs. 

“Hailey is everything a coach wants in a player, she’s so well-rounded, and for a smaller player she has a fierce heart for volleyball!” Sandpoint head coach Karen Alsager said. 

Sophomore Darby Rust returned to her early-season form, leading the team in kills with 14 and adding 10 digs. Fellow sophomore Averi Mire totaled 14 assists on the night. Junior Carlee Klippel, sophomore Ali Gunter and Lane all made a block at the net. 

Alsager said the team lacked discipline and played with more desperation than confidence in their rematch with Lake City. She said they’ll be working on that as they prepare for their next game against Timberlake. 

The Bulldogs, now 3-5 in the season, will get some practice before their Sept. 15 matchup with the Tigers. That game is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. in Spirit Lake.
