GEORGE — An Othello man died when he ran a stop sign and hit an embankment at the intersection of Beverly Burke Road and Road 5 Southwest Tuesday evening.

Dana Steiner, 62, was declared dead at the scene of the crash, about seven miles southwest of George, said Kyle Foreman, public information officer for the Grant County Sheriff's Office, in a media release. Steiner drove through the intersection and struck a canal embankment, Foreman said.

"Preliminary investigation shows alcohol was involved and Steiner was not wearing a seatbelt," Foreman said.

The crash is still under investigation by the GCSO motor traffic unit, he said.
