The man arrested after Kalispell Police officers opened fire earlier this month allegedly hurled rocks, cans and bottles at them during the confrontation.

Quinn Allen Heath, 51, faces a felony assault on a peace officer charge in Flathead County District Court following his Sept. 6 arrest in North Kalispell. Held in the county jail with bail set at $50,000, he is expected to appear before Judge Amy Eddy on Sept. 17 for his arraignment.  

Officers headed to a car dealership on U.S. 93 North about 9 p.m. after a security guard reported dealing with a man who was screaming, cursing and making aggressive gestures toward him, according to court documents. Officers located the man — later identified as Heath — walking along the shoulder of the highway.  

Heath allegedly ran at one of the approaching patrol vehicles and tossed a beer can on the hood before walking away. He ignored several commands to stop, court documents said.  

The officers unsuccessfully deployed their Tasers on Heath after he broke into a run, according to court documents. Heath allegedly hurled a glass bottle at them in response.  

Ignoring more calls to stop and shrugging off less-lethal rounds, Heath picked up a stone and threw it at the officers, court documents said. That prompted one of the officers to use his service revolver, though Heath escaped injury. 

As more officers arrived at the scene, they deployed a drone and continued to fire less-lethal rounds at Heath, court documents said. Authorities arrested Heath after hitting him with one of the less-lethal rounds.  

Assault on a peace officer is punishable by between two and 10 years behind bars and a fine of $50,000.
